We all have short memories sometimes when it comes to the weather…. so let’s go back and take a look at 2009, 2010 and this year and see how they compare. 2009 Precip:
2009 Temps: 2009 was known as the “year without a summer”. And the spring was also cooler and [...] Welcome to Spring! No doubt you’ve noticed that it’s felt more like spring recently. We’ve had temperatures surging into the 50s and even some 60s. We’ve had thunderstorms. We’ve had some flooding. I’ve even heard the birds chirping outside my window. In case you didn’t know, today is the start of meteorological spring. [...] I have three pictures sent in by Chris of Alum Bank. I have to preface this by saying that I cannot stand bees. For that reason, this post is title “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.” First, the good: Cherry Buds Blossoming Next, the bad: Bees Are Out! Finally, the ugly: [...] Thomas Tusser… Have you ever heard of that guy? He was an English poet and farmer that lived back in the 1500s. If you haven’t heard of the guy, don’t feel bad. I can guarantee that you’ve heard of his phrase, though. Tusser is responsible for the origins of the phrase “April showers bring [...] The spring (April through June) temperature and precipitation outlook issued today by the Climate Prediction Center – a division of the National Weather Service – indicates warmer-than-normal temperatures from Texas westward to the California deserts north to central Utah with cooler-than-normal temperatures in the Northwest, Hawaii and much of Alaska. Odds favor below-average precipitation across the northwestern U.S. and South Florida and favor above-average precipitation in Hawaii and northern Alaska. Sunshine, blue skies, birds chirping and people outside without heavy coats! Doesn’t get much better this time of year. While we didn’t break records today, two were tied! Things have been rather dry as of late across the Alleghenies, with the exception from Interstate 80 and northward. Hopefully over the next few weeks we’ll see a few good rainstorms (or snow, it’s all water!) so we won’t have to worry about fires and water shortages. One look at the current weather map would make one think it’s April 5 and not February 5. Temperatures in western PA are all well into the 50s, as far east as Johnstown and Dubois as a I write this. We are stuck at 39 here in Happy Valley as the warmest of air [...] |
