Well, April is all but over and it’s been an impressive month.

Here are some quick stats as of April 28th…

Johnstown had 6.73 inches of rain.

There were nearly 700 tornadoes this month alone with 211 tornadoes on the 27th!

NOAA: April Slightly Cooler Than Average for U.S.

The April 2009 temperature for the contiguous United States was below the long-term average, based on records going back to 1895, according to an analysis by NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, NC. 

The average April temperature of 51.2 degrees F was 0.8 degree F below the 20th Century average.  Precipitation across the contiguous United States in April averaged 2.62 inches, which is 0.19 inch above the 1901-2000 average.

Wet & Cool, But a Nice Payoff

We’ll see our share of April showers over the next 48 hours, but the end of the week will feature some fine springtime weather!

An area of low pressure will move into the Ohio Valley tomorrow, before redeveloping along the east coast tomorrow night. Rainfall amounts from this evening through Wednesday night will run between one half and one inch across most of the area, with some higher totals south of route 322 and east of route 219. Later tomorrow night and early Wednesday morning will be a tricky call with regards to precipitation type.
