So, we knew this storm was coming and we made our predictions. You can see what we predicted in the post below. Let’s get you updated on what is going on right now in terms of advisories and warnings.
It’s 9:23 PM as I write this now and the NWS in both Pittsburgh and [...]

An energized clipper-type system will slide through the state tomorrow, bringing periods of heavy snow. The snow will make for a tricky ride home from work as things look to get going shortly after lunchtime across northwestern PA, moving southeastward from there. Rain will mix with the snow in the valleys from route 119 [...]

For some reason… When it snows, I can’t help but think of this song that we had to sing Junior High School. The song went something like:
When I woke up this morning, the snow was falling down. The white stuff was everywhere! I couldn’t see the ground! I couldn’t wait to [...]

I have not been around the past few days due to the fact that I had surgery. Thanks for all the prayers and support. I hurt really bad but that’s a good thing, it means that my body is healing, I think.
Anyway, IÂ just wanted to remind everyone… please give yourself extra time [...]

Another Week, Another Storm
Our latest storm will arrive in PA overnight, and continue in some spots through Wednesday night! It looks like snow will start things off, then sleet and freezing rain will mix in by late morning south of I-80. Some spots will even go to rain for a time [...]

It’s that time of the week again… Meteorologist Tony Martin got out his telestration tools and started drawing on some maps. It’s time for the Weather Overview for February 22nd, 2008.

Guess what… I’ve got more video for you. This time, it’s me talking about how to stay safe when driving in winter conditions.Â

I don’t go into detail, but I talk about cruise control. That’s something that a lot of people don’t think about. Cruise control is great for long [...]

We’re going to try something new on Tuesday. At 10:30 AM, log on to the Severe Weather Team Blog and click HERE. This’ll bring up a new page and a LIVE blog. This is your chance to ask the Severe Weather Team anything about the weather industry or the current weather patterns. It’ll only [...]

We’ve already talked about this before, but I wanted to bring up PennDOT’s Winter Gameplan again. This is how PennDOT handles different snow accumulations…

Hey gang… Just a quick update to say what’s going on right now. We have some sleet falling at the studio around 9:00 on Friday morning. We started with all snow last night, but the changeover has taken place and we’re dealing with sleet. Expect a mix the rest of the day before changing [...]

So, it is now 1:11 AM on Friday and I just drove home from Pittsburgh. I left the ‘Burgh around 10:00 PM and got back to the apartment around 12:30 AM. The drive normally takes between an hour and a half and two hours, depending on traffic. Tonight, it took 2 and a half [...]

Here’s the final call on snow totals with this storm:
Within the 5-9″ zone, elevations under 1800 feet south of I-80 will see closer to 5 or 6″, and above 1800 feet will see 6 to 9″. Along I-80 looks to pick up 6 to 9″.

What I put out yesterday still looks good tonight, with a broad area of 6 to 10 inches across the area. From the turnpike southward, lesser amounts will occur due to a faster mix or changeover to sleet and freezing rain. In this area 2 to 5 inches seems like a good bet with [...]

It would be nice to have a storm this year that was clear cut, no hassle and easy to forecast. That’s not going to happen with our next storms late this week and the weekend. You notice I said storms. Plural. Let’s talk about #1 first. (Appropriate, huh?)
A relatively weak, shearing system will [...]

[digg=http://digg.com/space/Full_Lunar_Eclipse_Wednesday_Night]edit:Â I adjusted the timestamp on this post to bump it to the top of the blog because this happens TONIGHT!
It’ll be the third time in just a year that the moon completely passes through the shadow made by the sun’s light on the Earth. The total lunar eclipse happens on Wednesday night [...]

- I love Punxy Phil, he really is the greatest forecasting varmint of all time. And save it, you fans of the pretender groundhogs like the one down in Georgia, that General Lee or whatever – Phil was the original and haters beware. But here’s the thing – six weeks after February 2 is [...]

Winter’s Comeback
For the snow lovers out there…don’t give up just yet! We’ve got a weakening La Nina, a strengthening PNA, and a neutral NAO. It all means that there is the potential for some significant winter weather over the next several weeks. Our first small event comes in tomorrow, with a general [...]

On a day like today, partly sunny, mild and no precipitation, one might not think of this as a potentially dangerous situation for driving. But with our recent snowy weather and sudden turn to cold, it can become one when you least expect it.
What makes me think of this was when I was [...]

It was Presidents’ Day weekend 5 years ago… February 14th through February 19th of 2003… when the Northeast was hit by the Presidents’ Day Storm of 2003 (a.k.a. Presidents’ Day Storm 2, or PD2). Across the Alleghenies, we felt the storm mainly on the 16th and 17th of February.
The storm, which ultimately started [...]
