Weather Overview – Monday, March 31st, 2008

That’s it for March!

What a quick month! Even though it was cold and damp most of the time the month really seemed to fly by. At least for me. But I guess every month will be like that with a newborn! April looks to pick up where March has left off – [...]

Spring???

Here’s a sure sign of Springtime in the Alleghenies:

This was sent in by Jim Horvath of Richland Township about a week ago. Maybe it was bad luck? (Just kidding, Jim!) It’s usually a long haul out of winter around here, and this year has been no different. In fact, wet snow will [...]

Flash Riprock and the Bolt from the Blue

It sounds like a pretty good movie title for a kids movie, doesn’t it?  Well, I think that’s what the NWS was hoping for when they decided to use it as a way to dispel lightning myths and inject lightning wisdom into the general public.

To see the movie poster they came up with and some tips on how to stay safe when dealing with lightning, click the link below…  (It’s definitely worth a view!)

This sign is 10 feet tall by 40 feet wide and resides in Overland Park, Kansas, which is just outside of Kansas City.  In fact, it is viewed by over 200,000 people every day because the sign is on a building that faces a busy highway.

Wishful Thinking!

It’s sometimes called the “power of positive thinking” or maybe just “wishful thinking.” I like to call it a pre-emptive strike…

What am I talking about? Well, I’m talking about me wearing shorts from here on out. I normally break out the shorts at 50 or 55 degrees in the summer. This year, however, [...]

Early Spring Storm (Post #5)

The clipper system from last week under-produced in a few spots (mainly south of route 22) and over-produced a bit east of the Allegheny Front. Here’s a recap of the totals from around the region:

Second snowy Easter weekend in a row here in Centre County

Last year, the night before Easter Centre County saw anywhere from 3-6 inches of snow from a lake effect band on steroids. This year, the snow is back, a more general snow has put 4 3/4 inches on the ground here in Centre County this morning.

Looks like once again, Easter looks more [...]

Here’s the text from the National Weather Service about this storm…
