Mouse-over the ‘H’ in Jefferson county. You’ll see that Brockway had 1.75 inch hail! That’s pretty big!

Day 6

Today finished my second week at WJAC, and I continue to learn things from the Severe Weather Team. Today I was able to watch Chief Meteorologist Jim Burton during the noon news and get another viewpoint on the things Tim was telling me on Monday. I helped Tim “build” a new five day forecast [...]

Day 5

Today I worked with Meteorologist Tony Martin in creating his show for 5, 5:30, and 6. I also assisted in the construction of the forecasted lows / record lows graphic that was used this evening as well.

Today was such a beautiful day, and with the exception of some frost tonight, the rest of [...]

Heads up to gardeners – frost threat tonight

Been away from the blog for a bit, but I thought this would be a good time to alert any gardeners out there about a frost threat tonight. The National Weather Service has a freeze warning and frost advisory out for parts of the WJAC viewing area.

Even if you are not included [...]

Day 4

Today was my fourth day with the Severe Weather Team, and today was definitely the day I have learned the most so far. Today I got in front of the green screen and was able to show my skills in front of the wall. I was extremely nervous and had to get used to [...]

Alright… I’ve been keeping an eye on Memorial Day because I know everyone has plans. Here’s the latest on the holiday forecast.

The timing for tomorrow afternoon is going to be critical. Futurecast has the same idea I had about the timing of the showers and storms. It looks like they are [...]

Memorial Day… By the Numbers

You know, temperatures have been so chilly over the last week or two. A lot of people were worried about their Memorial Day plans. The good news is that there’s really nothing to worry about. Temperatures will be around 80° and most of the day should be dry. Notice I said ‘most.’ There is [...]

Day 3

Day 3 with the Severe Weather Team showed the intensity of a newscast. Tim Tender filled in for Jim Burton at noon and did an excellent job for having only about 20 minutes to prepare. I was truly impressed with the skill in which he was able to deliver his weathercast. It might not [...]

Our pattern has changed just enough to allow for some drying to take place. We’re not going to see any kind of record heat, but at least temperatures will return to more seasonable levels! Precipitation will also be a little more typical for the time of year, coming in the [...]

Weather Overview – Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Bring it on!

Warmer weather will finally make a return to the Alleghenies later this week, thanks to a building ridge to our west. That ridge will initially give us a few cool nights on Thursday and Friday, but the daylight hours look to be gorgeous. Highs will actually go above average late [...]
