Here’s a video from Weather Plus. It outlines the month of July. Keep in mind that the data is through July 28, 2008. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yd4eVIDoQIE] Hello everyone. I’m a new contributing writer to the Severe Weather Team Blog. I attend Penn State-University Park, studying Meteorology and Mathematics. I’ve been a weather geek since about the second grade, with the Blizzard of ’96 being my first fond memory of “storm tracking” (which back then, for me, consisted of watching [...] Here’s our latest Weather Kid, Katilyn. She did a great job when she came in on July 25th! [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCRa4AU5HJc] Here’s a recap of the Summer of 2008… so far! [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0BSCrpRaMM] Here’s a video from Weather Plus explaining the different hail sizes… [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IH1g6LL-8mc] Today was my final day as an intern with the Severe Weather Team. Today I constructed my own forecast which will air on Weather Plus later today and tomorrow morning and afternoon. I also constructed most of the graphics for Tim tonight, sent out the Early Warning Neighborhood Forecast, updated the website, and sent [...] An upper level low and its associated cold pocket of air moved across the state today, spawning a few severe thunderstorms. With cold air available, hail was very common in all the storms today. Some locations saw hail up to one inch in diameter. Here’s a look at the local storm report courtesy of [...] Today was my last Wednesday with the Severe Weather Team, and my last day working with Meteorologist Tony Martin. I made some graphics and sent out the Early Warning Neighborhood Forecast. Since this is my last day with Tony, I would like to thank him for everything he has taught me. Our discussions about [...] A line of severe storms are pushing across the state this evening. They’ve had a history of producing winds over 60 mph and large hail. Watch out if you live in the vicinity of the turnpike and southward in Somerset and Bedford counties.
Today began my last week interning with the Severe Weather Team. I work with all three of the guys today. I assisted Tim in making some more new graphics for the launch in August, sent out the Early Warning Neighborhood Forecast and entered scripts for Tony, and worked with Jim for the noon news. [...] Here’s the latest Weather Kid: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47Mw0nopePo] It’s Summer! Things have been pretty hot as of late, and that’s how it should be this time of year! Don’t complain too much, because before we know it the leaves will be falling from the trees and we’ll be wondering where all the time went. Our weather over the next week will [...] It’s amazing just how small of a world it is. I got down to the Outer Banks on Sunday. We get to our house and it turns out that the owners either live in or are from Cambria County. The house has a big sign that said ‘The Rummels – Yorktown, VA – Cambria [...] Today I worked with Meteorologist Tony Martin as he tried to create a forecast builder for the forecast graphics panels, that has yet to be resolved. I also fulfilled my usual duties. Be sure to enjoy the beautiful weather over the next couple days and watch the next Weather Kid on Friday. Summer is here! After several cool and wet weeks, it looks like we’ve finally locked into a more typical pattern for the time of year. Ridges of high pressure will build along the southeast coast and the south central U.S. this week and continue over the next several weeks. That’s something that we [...] Today begins my ninth and next to last week with the Channel 6 Severe Weather Team. Today, thus far, I worked with Chief Meteorologist Jim Burton. It was good to see him since he was out all of last week. Meteorologist Tony Martin will be coming in a bit later today, and I will [...] Today’s Weather Kid was Devan. Devan is going into the 9th grade at Blacklick Valley High School. Devan is the first Weather Kid to be on-air with Meteorologist Tim Tender, WJAC’s own Weather Kid in his day! His video is below. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nwa6ZtXwoEk] Today was a very productive day as I taped two one minute segments that can be used for my resume tape. Tony offered some very good feedback as I continue to hone my skills. Tony and I then watch Star Trek: Voyager and worked on a new State College Spikes forecast graphic. I just wanted to make a post to express my apologies for the lack of updates recently. We’ve had a few things posted recently, but it’s down a little from what I’d like it to be. I’ve been pretty busy with different projects here at the station. First, I’m working on getting those new [...] Warmer Times! Our pattern is changing. Our swimming pools will get used again! There’s been a great deal of heat building across the Rockies and the inter-mountain west over the past month, and it now looks like they’ve seen the hottest of their weather for the summer perhaps. That is thanks in part [...] |
