Indian Summer Part Deux! After our little bout of winter weather this week, our pattern will calm down quite a bit. Here’s some visual proof: #gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } Here’s the latest run of Futurecast. Just like before, the same things apply.
This is the post where you can leave your snow reports. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post. Make sure you leave your name, where you’re from, and your snow report. We’ll try to share some of the snow totals after the storm wraps up! This is update #3 coming at 4:29 PM on Tuesday. Here’s the latest on our first accumulations of the season along with a map showing where we’re expecting the most snow to fall. Continue into the post for the details… Here’s a picture from Bedford County that is definitely appropriate for the season:

Happy [...] We started the Severe Weather Team Blog a couple of years ago, but in the last year, we made the transition to WordPress.com. One of the really nice things about WordPress is that it lets you see how many people have been on your website. Today, we hit a new milestone with our 20,000th [...] Just a quick update here as Futurecast is looking more and more like it should, I think. Still, keep in mind that this is just a computer model and it could be wrong. Also, if the wind direction shifts off of the lakes, the snow bands will set up in a different place, leading to different accumulations. If you’d like to see the updated Futurecast snow map, click in… Everybody has them in the front yards or on the porch now and Jeff Oechslein, morning meteorologist at our sister station, WTOV-9 in Steubenville, has more info on how pumpkins are affected by ‘The WX Factor.’ What fruit has edible flowers, originated in Central America, and is made up of 90 percent water? The [...] Every Friday, we invite a student into the WJAC-TV Studios and let them have a crack at being the Weather Kid. This week, we invited Andrea in. She did a fantastic job. For video of her visit, click into the post… Watch how I make this a post that’s relevant to both Halloween and snow, all at the same time… I believe it was ‘The Zombies’ that said it best. They sang ‘it’s the time of the season’ and were they right, or what? We’re not even to Halloween yet and we’re already talking about snow accumulations. Early this afternoon, I was pretty confident that parts of the Alleghenies would see their first accumulations for the season. At that point, the models seemed to turn on the Lake Effect Snow Machine early in the week with the best chances for lake effect being late Tuesday and early Wednesday. It still looks like that’s the case. So, who’s going to see the most snow and how much are we going to see? Continue into the post for the answer… Halloween is officially less than a week away at this point and it’s time to take a look back at the last 8 of our Halloweens in the area. The data I’m looking at is for the Johnstown-Cambria County Airport. Most other locations in the area will be similar, with the exception of the snow numbers. Continue reading by clicking in to find a recap of the last 8 Halloweens! A strong storm will race through the Alleghenies over the next 24 hours bringing Here Comes the Cold  A strong storm system will move into the area for the start of the weekend, bringing us some beneficial rain and even a few thunderstorms. Rainfall amounts will average around one inch, but some higher amounts are possible. A while back we looked at the WX Factor (or The Weather Factor) when it comes to football, specifically the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, our sister station takes a look at the WX Factor for The World Series. Click into the post for more… and trust me, it’s a toss-up! Wow… It was cold this morning. Temperatures across the region were mainly in the lower 30s, but some locations did get into the 20s this morning, as predicted. We’re in for another cold morning tomorrow with more locations getting into the 20s. Here’s a look at this morning’s lows… Just an FYI… Clearfield hit 31° this morning and Bradford hit 24°. Tomorrow morning looks to be a cold one with at least one location getting close to breaking a record. Keep reading for more on the records and the Freeze Warnings that are in effect. It has been a while since I have had the chance to post a blog on here, but this is something to definitely write about. From October 11-16, I was in Louisville, KY for the annual National Weather Association (NWA) Conference. Members from different National Weather Service offices, television meteorologists, and those in other [...] We are happy to announce that the company that serves up our blog, WordPress.com, has introduced polls to their blogging service. We’ll be using those from time to time to gauge the opinion of our readers. Let’s do our first poll now… View Poll Here’s Meteorologist Tim Tender with a look at the reasons behind why leaves change color… [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1DtmRLV2Uc] Cooler Times Ahead  We all knew it had to end at some point, and that looks to be Thursday.
