The color change is one of the most beautiful times in the Alleghenies region and there’s a pretty big process involved. It starts with the loss of daylight. The lack of light causes the leaves to stop making chlorophyll. The chlorophyll is what makes the leaves green. Without chlorophyll, the green disappears and the other colors are allowed to shine through.
