How about this weather? It’s been extremely dry and up until Monday, comfortable with low humidity. Monday started to crank up the heat a little with highs getting into the 90s and staying that way through Thursday (and even Friday for some). The humidity crept up, as well and it started to feel more uncomfortable outside. Now, our string of dry weather is finally going to end today with thunderstorms and heavy downpours.
Thursday was the 10th day in a row without rain. As you can see in the graphic, the last rain we had was on June 28th. The last heavy rain came on June 9th. Those numbers are from the Johnstown-Cambria County Airport.
So, where does this dry spell rank in terms of number of days without precipitation? Let’s take a look. Click into the post to check it out.
I went back over the last year and found our longest streaks of dry weather…
November 6 – November 18, 2009 – 13 days
June 29 – July 8 – 10 days — CURRENT STREAK!
September 13 – September 21, 2009 – 9 days
March 4 – March 11 – 8 days
March 30 – April 5 – 7 days
April 17 – April 23 – 7 days
March 16 – March 21 – 6 days
With that said, this is our longest streak in 2010 with the next closest being 8 days in March. March had 3 separate streaks. That was our reward after the hectic February.
Now, we’re bringing rain back with scattered showers in the forecast to start the weekend and again next week. It doesn’t look like there are any more streaks in the near term. I hope you enjoyed the one that’s coming to an end. We do need the rain!
