Welcome to Spring!
No doubt you’ve noticed that it’s felt more like spring recently. We’ve had temperatures surging into the 50s and even some 60s. We’ve had thunderstorms. We’ve had some flooding. I’ve even heard the birds chirping outside my window. In case you didn’t know, today is the start of meteorological spring.
Unlike traditional spring, which starts in the middle to late part of this month, the meteorological spring starts today. It includes the months of March, April, and May. They do this because it’s easier to classify the seasons by temperature and precipitation characteristics.
Meteorological summer, which is from June 1st through August 31st, contains the warmest three months of the year. Meteorological winter, December 1st through February 28th (or 29th), consists of the coldest three months. The time of warming or cooling between these is meteorological spring and fall.
